Nova's Approach - Bioprospecting for Novel Phytopharmaceuticals

Nova's approach for Drug Discovery involves the bioprospect-ing of natural chemical diversity.

The Wonder of Our Indigenous Medicinal Plants

The cells of living plants are the sites of intricate and complex chemical synthesis that result in the formation of a remarkable array of organic compounds, many of them of great therapeutic importance to mankind.

These plants represent the culmination of perhaps 300 million years of chemical evolution in which natural selection resulted in maximizing both structural diversity and biological activity.

Nature continues to offer unrivalled and virtually random structural diversity, which correlated directly with biological diversity.

Nova Drug Discovery Technology - Nova-NatScreen

We have established a novel system of drug discovery technologies, known as Nova-NatScreen Technologies, which involves the following major steps.

Nova-NatScreen Drug Discovery System emphasizes the target-driven drug discovery approach.

Initially, the drug discovery process starts with the choice of therapeutic target.

Disease-related animal models or bioassays were developed and used to evaluate the extracts or lead compounds for relevant pharmacological properties.

By using high throughput screening techniques and bio-assay guided fractionation and separation, the most promising lead compounds or active fractions are identified and selected.

Thereafter, the candidate compound or extract undergoes toxicological testing, Pharmacokinetic tests, studies on absorption, distribution, metabolism and elimination, stability studies, formulation, and finally clinical trials leading to eventual marketing of the new product.
